Comal ISD Chess Tournaments

Comal ISD is proud to host three chess tournaments this year, one at each high school. Registration is open to all Comal ISD students to enter at any tournament beginning on January 8.

Tis the Season for Music

The hills surrounding Comal ISD are truly alive this season with music. From choir and band performances to orchestra and string classes, students of all ages are showcasing what they’ve learned over the last four months.

Meyer Ranch to add 1,600 homes in rural northwest

The district projects an increase of approximately 5,600 students during the next five years, according to CISD’s fall demographic update. The report states that from September 2017 to August 2018, the district had more than 5,600 home sales, and roughly 26 percent were new homes.

Governor Abbott Listens to Comal ISD Teachers

A week before school began, seven Comal ISD teachers sat down with Governor Greg Abbott for one-on-one roundtable discussions about education issues including teacher pay, early education, special education and school finance.

Startzville Elementary's 4th Annual Leadership Day

We would like to invite you to our 4th Annual Leadership Day!
When: Wednesday January 23, 2019
Time: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Place: Startzville Elementary
A self-guided school tour begins at 9am. You can take this time to experience our students demonstrating their leadership skills, visit with students as you tour the school, and witness student-driven learning. There will be a closing ceremony in the gym at 10:15am. Members of the community and district staff will also be in attendance as well as visitors from other school districts.
If you plan to attend, please RSVP. This will help expedite our check-in process.

Homebound Teachers, Unsung Heroes

While their anthem song may be “On the Road Again,” their heart song is probably “Imagine” by John Lennon or “What aWonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. As they travel the backroads, highways and creek beds that make up the Comal Independent School District, they offer a unique perspective on education, students and families.

Comal ISD Heritage Night a Big Hit

The excitement of fall was in the air October 9 as Goodwin Frazier Elementary School hosted its annual Heritage Night. The event served as a celebration of New Braunfels’ history, including the smells, sounds and sights of local food, music and dance.

SVHS teacher receives Outstanding Educator Award

Kirsten Watkins, who teaches AP English and English III at Smithson Valley High School, was recently selected as a University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award winner, based on a nomination written by one of her former students.
