June 19, 2023 - The Canyon High School class of 1963 celebrated its 60-year reunion May 24 at the New Braunfels Conservation Society with family, friends and the current CHS principal joining in on the fun.
The 20 classmates in attendance reminisced about their graduation day 60 years ago on the same date and what it was like to be among the first students to open the school in 1959 as freshmen. This class has the distinction of being the first class to graduate from CHS after completing all four years there.
Current CHS principal Dustin Davisson gave the alumni a glimpse into the opportunities that students today have as Cougars and how much the campus has grown. He was also proud to know that several graduates of the Class of 1963 have grandchildren walking the halls today.
The festivities were capped off with many stories and memories while looking through CHS yearbooks, catching up with old friends and remembering those who were not able to attend.
Members of the Class of 1963 in attendance included Shirley Georg Baker, Annette Crawford, Raymond Dietert, Sharron Striegler Faulkner, Bill Feick, Terry Fischer, John Fox, Kervin Kappelmann, Kenneth Kohlenberg, Larry Kramer, Lenard Lehmann, Sonja Reeh Moore, Robert Mueller, Edgar Oelkers, Larry Ormond, Heidi Schaefer Reeh, Roxie Dietert Smeal, Gladys Hansmann Smith, Karl Stellges and Sandra Fischer Zlatkovich.
